A lady has been left feeling ‘discriminated’ when a visit to KFC turned into dissatisfaction when she was told there were no meat-free meals.
Vanessa Hensley and her husband Aaron Saini visited the Sidwell Street branch in Exeter on the evening of March 6, when they were told by staff that there were no veggie meals or vegan options left regardless of not having any trouble ordering in the past.
Vanessa, of Tedburn St Mary, is a pescatarian and because of not eating meat other than fish she was expecting to get the vegan burger or veggie rice box for herself as a supper.
However, after her husband went inside to place an order, the couple were stunned after they were told by staff there were no veggie options at all – leaving Vanessa disappointed and hungry.
She revealed to Devon Live: “We were all going to treat ourselves as a household to a family bargain bucket and also a vegetarian meal for myself. When my partner got to the till to order they said, unfortunately, we haven’t got any vegan or vegetarian options on the menu anymore – I thought that was absolutely disgraceful.
She further added: “They didn’t say a reason why – they were quite rude to my partner. I think it’s disgusting because there are more and more people becoming vegan and vegetarian these days. We both left and said we’ll go elsewhere for food – my partner said it’s not fair so we ended up having fish and chips.”
Vanessa said this made her angered and ‘furious about’ the experience and will not be getting back to KFC at any point in the near future.
In response to the incident, a spokesperson for KFC said: “We never want our fans to leave feeling disappointed! We’re sorry this guest wasn’t able to get their hands on one.”
